DJ Quik and Problem (a.k.a. Jason Martin) are releasing a joint album, and they’ve recruited Lil Jon to help them kickstart the rollout with a bang.

The West Coast duo announced on Friday (April 19) a full-length collaboration called Chupacabra, which is set to arrive later this year via EMPIRE.

The first single, “Workout,” is a funky, uptempo ode to shaking off the negativity and lifting one’s mood through moving around and working up a sweat.

“Express yourself!/ Do ya thing in the mirror and express yourself/ We all make mistakes, correct yourself/ If ya don’t like their style then dress yourself,” Problem raps on the track, which also features West Coast Hip Hop pioneer Rodney O (of Rodney-O & Joe Cooley fame).

Fans can expect to hear “Workout” blaring through their TV screens in the coming months as Quik and Problem have partnered with ESPN to sync song throughout the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Listen to it below.

DJ Quik and Problem are no stranger to collaborating having previously joined forces in 2017 for the album Rosecrans.

Named after the major thoroughfare in their hometown of Los Angeles, the project boasted appearances from The GameWiz KhalifaMC EihtDom Kennedy and Suga Free, among others.

In addition to Chupacabra, Quik is also set to hit the road with Snoop Dogg and Warren G this summer on the Cali to Canada Tour which, as the title suggests, will take the West Coast rap legends north of the border.

The 11-date trek commences on June 3 with a performance at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, and will wrap up on June 25 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.

Stops in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary are also scheduled.

Last month, both Quik and Snoop attended the ceremonial unveiling of Dr. Dre‘s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame alongside other Hip Hop luminaries like Eminem and 50 Cent.

LIL WAYNE MIGHT HAVE TO TESTIFY IN YOUNG THUG'S ONGOING YSL RICO TRIAL

Lil Wayne might be called to testify in Young Thug‘s ongoing YSL Rico trial in relation to his 2015 tour bus shooting.

According to a report by AllHipHop, Fulton County prosecutors tried to play videos of Weezy speaking about Thug in the courtroom on Wednesday (May 1), but Judge Ural Glanville refused to allow it unless the Young Money rapper testified himself.

“It seems like you all are trying really hard not to call [Lil Wayne] and that’s your choice,” Glanville told D.A. Adriane Love.

“If you don’t call him, my ruling will stand on these particular exhibits that you are trying to introduce.”

The prosecution is looking to use the 2015 shooting against Young Thug, as he reportedly hired affiliate PeeWee Roscoe to carry it out. Roscoe was eventually sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 years of probation over the matter, but his conviction was overturned in 2018.

While Lil Wayne making it into the courtroom is not guaranteed, the driver of his tour bus at the time, Alvin Lewis, is set to take the stand on Monday (May 6). He previously sued Thug, Birdman and Roscoe over the shooting in 2016.

While videos of Wayne discussing the matter may not make it into evidence, Judge Glanville previously ruled that Fulton County prosecutors will be able to use a long conversation Thug had with authorities in July 2015 amid the tour bus shooting’s investigation.

Thug’s attorneys attempted to have the results of that talk declared inadmissible for the RICO trial – which at the time had not yet started – arguing that the interview with law enforcement violated Thug’s right to counsel and statements he gave “were not voluntarily made.”

Glanville, however, disagreed as he ruled that Thug didn’t actually have a right to counsel in that situation, because even though he was in police custody, he hadn’t been charged in the case the authorities were asking him about.
