Drake has apparently been waiting for a decade to do lyrical battle with Kendrick Lamar, according to Akademiks.
Speaking on his Off the Record podcast, the media personality claimed that he’s been in touch with the 6 God in recent weeks amid his reignited beef with K. Dot and shared snippets of their conversations.
“From what he’s told me, he’s been waiting for this for 10 years,” he said. “He’s watched the pattern. He specifically told me, ‘Yo, I’ve watched this guy do the same bait and switch every time. He drops a verse that people are hyped up about, that people are like, ‘Oh, he’s coming at you.’ I’m always ready to defend myself. I’m always ready to engage… and then he goes ghost and nothing happens.'”
Akademiks also claimed that Drake is aware of a rumored diss track that Kendrick has had in the stash for years, which he theorized is why the Toronto native has been repeatedly taunting his rival.
“You can tell he wants the showdown to happen now and not for everybody to go back to their corners and reconvene another time,” Ak added. “He wants it now.”
The podcaster, who has been critical of Kendrick’s silence over Drake’s diss songs “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle,” also wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Now if Kendrick Lamar mans up and finally drops I’ll change my tune especially if its good.
“But im hearing that n-gga tryna sell his next album with the Drake diss.. to me thats WEIRD asf. imagine Drake said he wasn’t responding to Like That til his next album.”
Drake recently took down his second Kendrick Lamar diss track following legal threats from the estate of 2Pac.
On “Taylor Made Freestyle,” Drizzy used artificial intelligence to mimic the voices of 2Pac and Snoop Dogg to diss Kendrick, which the late rapper’s estate were not happy about.
In a cease and desist notice, they said: “The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality. Not only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac’s publicity and the estate’s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. The Estate would never have given its approval for this use.
“The unauthorized, equally dismaying use of Tupac’s voice against Kendrick Lamar, a good friend to the Estate who has given nothing but respect to Tupac and his legacy publicly and privately, compounds the insult.”
They added: “If you comply, the estate will consider whether an informal negotiation to resolve this matter makes sense. If you do not comply, our client has authorized this firm to pursue all of its legal remedies including, but not limited to, an action for violation of … the estate’s copyright, publicity and personality rights and the resulting damages, injunctive relief, and punitive damages and attorneys’ fees.”
“Taylor Made Freestyle” was subsequently removed from Drake’s social media pages, although Drizzy himself has not yet commented on the matter.
