Nile Rodgers has spoken out in defence of using AI for his upcoming music video.
Earlier this week, the Chic musician revealed that he had undergone an "AI capture" process to create "an AI me" for the video accompanying his forthcoming charity single with singer Rebecca Ferguson, The Christmas Song.
Following criticism from fans over his decision to use AI, Rodgers responded to some of the comments and explained his reasoning.
"I hear you," he replied to one user. "I think it's somewhat hypocritical to say you're anti AI and you're using it all the time because it makes your life convenient. I used to work with Microsoft and Apple. I'm very aware of the things they do when they have new tech that consumers like yourself adopt its usage. Love to you. I respect all opinions."
In another response, the 74-year-old guitarist explained that the video team had "created everything", including moodboards and storyboards, before using artificial intelligence to carry out "what we told it to do".
"We painstakingly created every second you'll see on the screen," he wrote. "If this were a traditional film it would've cost about $100,000. By the way you're using AI daily... You're being hypocritical. It's ok for you to use AI in your way but you have (a) problem with my way. Do you use Google, or get driving directions? Look at your own daily actions and check how much you use AI. Love, Nile."
Rodgers also shared several stills from the video, showing him and Ferguson seemingly performing on stage in front of a crowd of wild animals.
The musician originally recorded the charity track during COVID-19, and it is set to arrive on 20 November.
