Benzino has called out Busta Rhymes for filming a “half-naked” video with his daughter, Coi Leray.
Busta recently collaborated with Leray on “Luxury Life” from his upcoming album Blockbusta, with the pair also filming a music video for the song.
However, the former The Source co-owner has taken issue with the visual, which features numerous scenes of Coi in skimpy outfits, claiming the contents of the video are inappropriate and that Busta Rhymes should have contacted him about it first.
“The whole Busta Rhymes collaboration — like, he should have reached out to me,” he said on Instagram Live. “You don’t do no video with my daughter half-naked. You a grown ass fucking man.
“He should have reached out to me and said something. But it is what is. She’s grown, she can do what she want. But I wasn’t with that. All I can do is have my opinions from afar. Once they reach a certain age, it doesn’t matter what I think.”
He added: “The internet is definitely killing the family communication, the family bond.”
“I know Angie Martinez doesn’t like me. I don’t like her either,” he said. “But to sit there and interview my daughter and manipulate the situation, she knew what she was doing. I’m not gon’ call her any names or anything. That was the old ‘Zino, so I’m gonna try to keep in respectful. But she was wrong.
“She’s a woman too, an older woman, so she shoulda knew better. You don’t play with peoples’ kids. And that’s what’s so disheartening about this.”
Benzino also shared his thoughts on Coi Leray choosing music as a career path, saying he “didn’t see her in that light.”
“I didn’t know Coi felt this way about me and it hurts. It hurts bad,” he said. “You know, y’all are just seeing the surface of it on the internet. But in real life, shit ain’t cool. Wish it never happened. I know she got nominated for a Grammy and lord knows I want her to win it.
“Now, I have three boys. Coi’s my only girl, so you know, girls are harder. Boys, you think they have it all figured out because boys, you’re looking at them as young men. So it’s not that you’re not protective of them, but girls, you’re overprotective.”
He added: “I supported Coi wanting to do music because that’s all she’s ever been around. She’s only been around studios when she was doing music. I wasn’t necessarily with her being half-naked on Instagram or talking about certain subjects she did in her music.
“But that didn’t mean I didn’t want her to do music. I thought she was gonna go to college. I didn’t see her in that light. But she’s very successful. I’m proud of her.”
