KILLER MIKE DETAILS GRAMMYS ARREST ON POWERFUL NEW SONG 'HUMBLE ME'

Killer Mike has addressed his controversial arrest at the 2024 Grammy Awards on his new song “Humble Me.”

The Atlanta rap legend released the track after winning Album of the Year at the BET Awards on Sunday (June 30), which was coincidentally held at L.A.’s Peacock Theatre, the same location as his arrest.

Featuring Muhammad Ali on the intro giving a speech about humility, the song and accompanying black and white video capture the Run The Jewels rapper in a braggadocious yet reflective mood.

“I won at the Grammys/ For spitting my grammar/ Did that for Atlanta/ Swept up like a janitor/ Got sent to the slammer / Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal,” he raps over muscular production from Tec Beatz, Cory Henry and Cuz Lightyear.

On the God-fearing track, he adds: “The Devil be doing you right when you doing it/ The Devil will ruin you/ Behind me Satan/ I walked out the door, my head up and handcuffs with pride.”

The song also sees Mike recalling his mental state during his brief incarceration: “I had to quiet my mind, I prayed and I prayed and I prayed/ The liars were lying their lies/ I kept on just keeping my faith/ The Devil put me on this whipping post/ The Lord did not lie on there with me/ So I went to sleep as free as can be and the next day my son got a kidney.”

It was recently confirmed that Killer Mike will not be charged in relation to his Grammys arrest, which came after an alleged confrontation with a security guard.

The rapper also referenced the arrest in his BET Awards victory speech after winning Album of the Year for Michael.

“Technically, I was not supposed to be here,” he said. “I was put in handcuffs and I was marched out of this building. But I wanna tell you, look at God because I’m back, baby. I’m back.”

He added: “I wanna tell Black people that it’s because of BET I’m back, not ’cause of no white person. A Black man runs this business, a Black company puts this show on, and they got my Black ass back in here. Thank you.”

“I’m moved and compelled to say this in this moment, a lot of people gonna say, ‘Who was he? Why did he get it?’” Mike continued. “I am a representation of one of the finest things God has ever made. And that’s one-half of the Black family.

“Black men and women, I am you. Whether you’re young, whether you’re old, whether you like me, whether you don’t like me, I am absolutely you, and this win is absolutely ours.”

Beyonce's New Wax Figure Leaves Fans Confused: "That’s Becky"

image

It goes without saying that replicating Beyonce with wax would be a pretty tough feat. Recently, however, the Grévin Museum in Paris has earned a great deal of backlash for what fans think is a wildly off-base depiction of the icon. They unveiled the new wax figure earlier today. Social media users were quick to call them out, accusing them of whitewashing the multi-hyphenate.

"Baby that’s Addison Rae," one Instagram user writes in The Neighborhood Talk's comments section. "That’s Becky not Beyonce," someone else jokes. Others are questioning why the figure's skin tone was made lighter than the actual Bey's, and have been reminded of similar instances involving other celebrities. Last year, for example, the same museum unveiled a wax figure of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, which some thought more closely resembled Mr. Clean.

The Rock himself responded to the uproar, revealing that he and his team planned to reach out to the museum to ask them to change some "important details," including his skin color. The museum ended up fixing the wax figure, and acknowledging that it was "indeed whiter than it should have been." According to them, the mistake was made due to the reference photo they chose to use, and how "tricky" lighting can be sometimes. It's unclear whether or not Beyonce plans to do something similar. She's yet to address the debacle at the time of writing.

Back in 2017, Madame Tussauds also displayed a Beyonce wax figure that led to a tremendous amount of criticism. Again, fans demanded a "re-do," insisting that both her features and skin tone were not being accurately portrayed. The museum later announced that the figure's styling and lighting would be "adjusted." What do you think of the Grévin Museum's new Beyonce wax figure? What about social media users' reactions to it?
