Finneas says touring without Billie Eilish is “very bittersweet”

Finneas has opened up about going on tour without his sister and collaborator Billie Eilish, sharing that it is “very bittersweet”.

The musician and producer has joined Eilish on tour for nearly the entirety of her career with her current ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ tour marking the first time the duo are not on the road together.

The Grammy and Academy Award-winning artist, songwriter, and producer opted out of joining his sister on tour due to the release of his second solo album ‘For Crying Out Loud!’ and his forthcoming solo tour.

While appearing on Jake Shane‘s Therapuss podcast, Finneas opened up about not touring with the ‘What Was I Made For?’ singer. “It’s been very bittersweet. I only decided to do it because I knew that I couldn’t be in two places at once. I can’t do my own tours and her tour at the same time, and I don’t want to prevent her from touring as much as she wants to tour,” he said.

He continued: “And then the sweet part has just been I’ve seen the show a few times and it’s amazing. I think her show is incredible. It doesn’t suffer at all because I’m not there. She’s great, and I’ve come out and done a song or two, but I really think she’s doing the best show she’s ever done. So that’s lovely.

“I call her constantly. You know, a lot of the time she’s just kind of being an athlete and resting and doing physical therapy and stuff like that,” he added. “I just make sure she’s doing okay. I’ve always said, leading up to it and since she left, ‘If you ever need some company, I’ll jump out and just come hang out with you, keep you company on the road.’”

Though he is not on tour with Eilish, he has joined her at a handful of shows on her ongoing tour including Newark’s Prudential Center as well as her three-night run at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. He is also set to serve as opening support at her show on December 21 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

Previously speaking about being without her brother for the first time on tour, Eilish told  CBS News’ Anthony Mason: “I’ve never done a show without my brother in my life. I mean, I’ve barely performed and sung without my brother, like never. I don’t have my parents on the road. I mean, they’re coming out to visit, and that’s been amazing. But I don’t have the same kind of structure that I had before.”

She also explained how she prepared herself for the tour without Finneas and shared: “we talked about that happening like two years ago and it’s been a known thing within our family for two years. We were like, ‘Oh no, it’ll be great,’ and it’s what’s right, and whatever. And then, two weeks until I was gonna leave came, and we were both getting a little sad and just bittersweet, and emotional.

“And then the couple days before I left, I was kind of a mess. Just a little choked up every time I’d talk about it or think about it. Finneas was so sweet about it, and he was like, ‘You know, this is the way it is right now but like, if you ever need me, I will get on a plane as soon as you want,’ which is really sweet.”

In other news, Eilish recently played snippets of two new songs during a recent interview and revealed that she has been “making music” again.

Elsewhere, Eilish and Finneas appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk and surprised fans with a call back to her debut LP in the form of the deep cut ‘I Love You’.

Her song ‘Birds Of A Feather’ was recently named as the 12th best song of 2024 by NME. Her album ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’, which was also named in NME’s list of the Best Albums Of 2024, coming in at Number Nine.
