Boston, MA – Monahlyan, a 29-year-old artist whose music is described as "promising bright fantasy filled with magic," invites listeners into a world of empowerment, sensuality, and confidence with her song "Like That There" from her 2021 EP MO*NAH. The track showcases her ability to intertwine ethereal melodies with relatable emotions, creating a unique listening experience.
Monahlyan, whose real name is Aajia Freeman, describes the song as an exploration of feminine energy and personal empowerment. "I think for me, the process was trying to put down and get a feel for my feminine side," she shared. Drawing inspiration from a past connection, she channeled the emotions of feeling "strong, empowered, sensual, and sexy" into one cohesive track.
The creation of "Like That There" was a labor of love, with Monahlyan crediting much of its magic to the production process. "My favorite part was the structure of the beat," she said. "I wanted a dramatic and unique format, so I experimented with different tempos and transitions to balance my strong lyrics."
Despite her passion, Monahlyan admitted that delivering such a confident and bold track wasn't without challenges. "Finding that voice of empowerment was the most difficult aspect," she revealed. "It took a lot to pull out that right amount of sass and confidence to deliver the song in the way I envisioned."
Monahlyan hopes "Like That There" will inspire listeners to embrace their confidence. "It's a celebratory record filled with confidence and positivity. Whether it's a girl finding the courage to connect with someone special or a guy working up the nerve to ask someone on a date, I want people to feel spirited and confident."
Beyond the music, Monahlyan's artistry is deeply influenced by her classical training and collaboration with her producer, Melissa, a classically trained pianist. This fusion of classical and R&B elements creates a sound that is both timeless and innovative. "Classical music gives me the freedom to create and write however I want while also influencing my R&B style," she explained.
Monahlyan's journey in music began in her grandmother's backyard in Boston, where her childhood passion for singing eventually led her to formal training. Influenced by icons such as Jennifer Hudson, Sade, and Lady Gaga, she has carved out her own space in the industry, driven by her work ethic and dedication to her craft.
With "Like That There," Monahlyan continues to showcase her ability to craft music that resonates deeply with her audience, blending emotional depth with vibrant production.
