Yeah Yeah Yeahs will bring their new concert short film Hidden In Pieces to cinemas around the world, with selected screenings pairing it with classic films.
The band recently unveiled the 22 minute film alongside ‘Hidden In Pieces Live At The Royal Albert Hall’, a live album recorded at the London landmark last June.
Filmed at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, the short presents new arrangements of the group’s songs onstage. Its limited cinema run begins later this month, with several venues showing it alongside films chosen by the band and director Barnaby Clay.
The selections include Night Of The Hunter at Rio Cinema Dalston in London, plus David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive and Eraserhead for screenings in Australia and Los Angeles.
“Experience Hidden in Pieces in its visual splendour at these special theatrical screenings paired with feature films selected by director @OutoftheEther and YYYs. Tickets available now at yeahyeahyeahs.com,” the group shared on social media. Tickets can be purchased here.
The complete screening schedule follows:
SEPTEMBER
21: London, UK, Rio Cinema Dalston, paired with Night Of The Hunter
21: Melbourne, Australia, The Lido, paired with Mulholland Drive
21: Sydney, Australia, The Ritz, paired with Mulholland Drive
22, 23 and 24: Mexico City, Mexico, Cine Tonalá, short film only
23: New York City, US, The Roxy, paired with Wings Of Desire
23: Los Angeles, US, Vidiots, paired with Eraserhead
24: Tokyo, Japan, Human Trust Cinema Yurakucho, short film only
Describing his approach, Clay said: “I wanted to create a film that not only captured the live performance but also felt close to the spirit of what the band was going for with their shows; something delicate and dream-like, like a precious memory, timeless, emotionally charged and shrouded in mystery.”
‘Hidden In Pieces Live At The Royal Albert Hall’ is already streaming. An expanded digital release, along with vinyl and CD editions, arrives on October 23, with preorders available here. The first 250 orders will include a photograph signed by the band.
Last year’s tour celebrated Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ 25th anniversary. Alongside the Royal Albert Hall performance, the live album includes recordings from concerts in San Diego, Chicago and New York.
Karen O said the run “was born out of a need to commune with our band and fan family in 2025, after the election”.
“In the past, YYYs haven’t often chosen when to be back at it and out there, it often chooses us,” she continued. “It, being the times. We turn to live music when we need that specific quality of depth and light to see us through the times.”
‘In Heaven’, from Eraserhead, opens the recording. O explained the tribute: “Thanks also to David Lynch for his everything. His passing came a month before we began this journey and the performance begins with an ode to his legacy.”
The group last released a studio album in 2022 with ‘Cool It Down’, ending a gap of almost ten years. In its four star review, NME described the record as “a creative testament to how refreshing it can be for bands to look forward instead of backwards”.
