U2’s Bono gives Dolly Parton a special 80th birthday surprise

Bono arranged a surprise birthday treat for Dolly Parton, enlisting a bagpiper to mark her 80th birthday celebrations on Monday.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the country legend shared a video capturing the moment Nashville based Irish musician Patrick D’Arcy entered a meeting room and played Happy Birthday for her on the bagpipes.

In the clip, a colleague also wheeled out a cake for a clearly delighted Dolly, decorated with the message “Love… Bono” written in icing.

After blowing out the candles, the Jolene singer laughed and said, “Well, thank you, Sir. I saw that cake said, ‘From Bono.’ So, he must have sent you as a present to me? I appreciate all of you.”

“It’s a pleasure to be here on behalf of the whole band,” Patrick replied, giving a nod to Bono’s U2 bandmates The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.

Dolly then joked that the With Or Without You group might be poking fun at her age.

“Bono, I know him personally. Good to see you and thank you! That’s a surprise, is Bono calling me an old bag?” she quipped.

In the caption alongside the video, Dolly went on to thank Bono for adding something special to her milestone birthday.

“Now that’s what you call a surprise! This old bag sure feels the love! Thank you, Bono and @u2 for making my birthday extra special,” she wrote.

Patrick also reflected on the experience in his own Instagram post, revealing that he performed several songs for Dolly throughout the day.

“I played uilleann pipes and bagpipes, madness I know, but it was well received. I also brought her a pint of Guinness and we even had time for a lovely chat. She was everything you would hope she would be. Happy 80th Birthday Dolly!” he shared.

Bono, who recently turned 65, has yet to publicly explain what prompted him to organise the memorable birthday gesture.

Ray J speaks out about treatment during health struggle

Ray J has shared a new update on his medical care after previously saying he may only have months left to live.

The R and B singer, whose real name is William Ray Norwood Jr., alarmed fans earlier this week after revealing he was hospitalised in Las Vegas following breathing problems and chest pain, saying he “almost died”.

He told his Instagram followers that his heart “is only beating 25 per cent” and claimed he does not expect to live past 2027.

In an interview with TMZ on Thursday, the 45 year old said doctors have instructed him to remain on bed rest and take eight prescribed medications in an effort to extend his life.

Among the drugs he listed were Jardiance and Entresto, both commonly prescribed to treat heart failure, as well as Lipitor, which is used to manage cholesterol, alongside other medications.

The One Wish singer also said doctors have warned him he may need a pacemaker or a defibrillator implanted, although he will not know for sure until his next medical review in two weeks.

Ray admitted he has been struggling to give up alcohol and smoking, and revealed he is thinking about travelling to Haiti to explore alternative treatment options.

The Love and Hip Hop star also disclosed that he is currently under a criminal protective order that stops him from seeing his seven year old daughter Melody and his six year old son Epik. He said being separated from his children “took me down” and “made me realise I need to change my ways of living”.

He was arrested in November 2025 after allegedly pulling a gun on his estranged wife Princess Love during an incident that was reportedly caught on a livestream.

Earlier this week, Ray told his Instagram followers, “My heart's only beating 25 per cent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be all right... My health is not OK, so I thank everybody for supporting and praying for me through everything I've been in the hospital.”

In another video message, he added, “2027 is definitely a wrap for me. That's what they say.”
