CNN has issued an apology to Dolly Parton’s relatives after mistakenly publishing an incorrect photograph in its coverage of her death.
While reporting on the passing of the legendary musician, the broadcaster unintentionally displayed an image of a Las Vegas tribute performer.
"We regret the error and apologise to the Parton family," CNN stated.
The picture featured Kelly Vohnn, who later explained that it was captured in December 2025 when she attended a Las Vegas premiere of the movie Song Sung Blue.
"I started getting all these texts in from friends saying that I was on CNN, and I couldn't believe it," Vohnn explained to The New York Post. "I was already heartbroken at losing Dolly because of how much she has given to me as a woman and an artist. But then to see these images of me on screen was just weird."
Vohnn clarified that she has "never represented" herself as Parton, although she has "always been known as a tribute act for her" alongside her portrayals of other famous figures. "I thought about calling CNN, but was really consumed by the grief of losing Dolly (and) I just wanted to be at home with my thoughts, raising a glass of wine to that brilliant woman," she added.
Parton passed away from an unspecified type of cancer on August 25 at the age of 80.
