Offset is facing a lawsuit over his alleged involvement in a scuffle that took place at ComplexCon back in 2021 — even though the rapper previously claimed he just “stepped in to break up a fight.
According to Radar Online, a man named Daveon Clark has sued Offset, as well as rapper YRN Murk, for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
Clark’s suit reportedly claims that he was a private security guard during the 2021 convention. He alleges that YRN Murk spat on him after the rapper was denied entry to the event. As other guards pushed Murk, the rapper hit Clark.
The suit claims that in the chaos that followed, Offset “struck” the guard.
Clark claims both physical and mental injuries as a result of the alleged assault, and is seeking so-far unspecified damages.
In the aftermath of the event in 2021, Offset spoke to Complex about what happened, responding to headlines that said he’d gotten into a “brawl.”
“I wasn’t fighting at ComplexCon. I stepped in to break up a fight caused by a booth’s security,” he said. “The story is false and overshadows why I’m a regular at ComplexCon. I was there to support the culture and emerging brands and designers. I’m focused on that. I’m in a positive space. Appreciate the concern.”
Offset has also been in the news for more positive reasons recently. His most recent album Set It Off, which came out last month, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart, which prompted his wife Cardi B to share congratulations on social media.
She wrote: “So proud of my baby!! Going against all odds… leaving his label, starting fresh, staying focused determined and not letting nothing break him… he did that!”
She concluded the post by writing: “MY TURN,” in what appeared to be a to a reference to her own upcoming album. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper said just last month that her sophomore release will arrive “very soon,” though “it’s not going to come out this year.”
