The Mellow Mac has just released his new single “One Way Ticket,” which he describes as a smooth R&B track. With the song’s glistening keys, drums and changes in vocal delivery, it’s an excellent blend of classic and modern R&B elements.
Mac says he wants the song to make people think of taking their relationship with their significant other to the next level. He also says he wants the lyrics of the song to be taken in a literal sense and have people be inspired to take a plane ride to see that special person in their lives. The song conveys this sentimental feeling through the uplifting melody and Mac’s vocals, which float between lower and higher registers.
The Mellow Mac’s background in music is quite vast. He has been producing for the last 20 years and before that made a career using his skills playing multiple instruments. Whether he was playing in bands as an official member or a session instrumentalist, Mac always found himself creating and being a part of live music.
In fact, in Mac’s own words, he’s been a part of 30 bands in his lifetime, with his own band, L.A. CounyLine, being one in which he’s active to this day. With this much experience, it comes as no surprise that he played all the instruments on “One Way Ticket” which include drums, keys and a guitar with subtle but strong presence.
Mac’s history with music spans his entire life and has allowed him to take inspiration from and have an appreciation for all lanes and genres of music. This also comes in handy for his production as he is able to work with a variety of artists. People are often surprised at just how wide his range truly is.
This single is a taste of the full album Mac has in store for 2025, which is also titled One Way Ticket. He says this album is his chance to finally showcase to the world what he enjoys most. His works across the years have all been collaborative efforts, which he loves and enjoys, but he says now he is ready to show the world his true authentic self.
He plans to include R&B on the album as well as some rap features. Naturally, he’ll be handling the production. The songwriting will be mostly his own and some will be in collaboration with his band member Jacob G.
The Mellow Mac’s driving force is his love for music. He enjoys making it and it doesn’t even feel like work to him — he even says it relaxes him. When the album releases, he looks forward to meeting people through the music he’s made. He says as long as people enjoy the music and share with others, he feels appreciated. If he’s able to gain new friends and fans while doing what he loves, he’s satisfied.
