Tommy Richman Builds Album Hype On Our New "R&B Season" Playlist Update: Stream

Summer's officially over, and we have some new jams on our latest R&B Season playlist update to round up the best new releases to usher in the fall. Starting things off is the newest single from Tommy Richman ahead of his debut album COYOTE, "WHITNEY." As usual with his catalog, it's a pretty funky, mid-fi, buzzy, but nonetheless charming mix of gritty percussion patterns, striking synths, an overall throwback feel, and passionate lead vocals. Some echo effects and heavy reverb slightly muddy the appeal of the DMV native's performance here, but it's nonetheless a compelling and exciting new approach compared to past records.

Also on our R&B Season update is the latest collaboration under 4batz's belt, his new single "roll da dice" with Lil Baby. This is actually one of his most fleshed-out and dynamic tracks so far when it comes to the drums, which feel much more present here than on previous material. Still, the track maintains the woozy, minimally icy, and very simply atmospheric tones that you've probably come to expect here. Baby does his thing here, but the dreamy vibe of the song means that his contribution is more of a fitting and vibe-building background addition than a true stand-out.

Next up from the R&B-adjacent world is a distinct, acoustic, and meditative track from Chiiild, "Don't Fade On Me." It's a Tom Petty cover from an Apple TV+ original series Bad Monkey celebrating his music, and takes the original cut in a much more hazy and low-key direction. Gorgeous vocal harmonies propel the track forward alongside gently strummed guitars, and some additional synth pads in the background build out the world for you to lose yourself in.

Finally, we wanted to shout out the new Chase Shakur single, "LIMERENCE." This is probably the most classically R&B-sounding release on our playlist this week, with charismatic lead vocals, punchy drums, sultry lyricism, some soulful bass, and electronic embellishments. Let us know what your favorite R&B Season pick was this week, as well as what else we missed, down in the comments section below. Check the playlist out above and, as always, come back to HNHH for the best new music drops around the clock.

Travis Scott Officially Gets "DAYS BEFORE RODEO" To Billboard No. 1 After Sabrina Carpenter Battle

image

Travis Scott may have been a couple of weeks late, but he finally got the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart that he and his team fought for. For those unaware, the tenth anniversary re-release of his fan-favorite mixtape DAYS BEFORE RODEO debuted at No. 2 upon release following a nail-biting but well-fought race with Sabrina Carpenter's Short N' Sweet LP... Potential sales discrepancies and all. However, now we can put that combative and minimizing conversation (that goes both ways) to rest, as the project jumped from 106 to No. 1 in its fourth week of release after vinyl editions exclusively available on La Flame's website shipped out.

In fact, this is the biggest sales week for any hip-hop vinyl in modern history, and contributed to a total of 156K album-equivalent units sold in the tracking week ending September 19. Traditional album sales account for 150,000 of these numbers, but don't think that the Houston superstar isn't dominating streaming numbers as well. It's Travis Scott's biggest-ever vinyl week (149,000 copies), and the sixth-biggest vinyl week ever across all genres since Luminate's tracking data for this began in 1991. Some more superlatives: so far, it's reportedly 2024's best-selling rap album and the best-selling mixtape of all time.

Travis Scott's DAYS BEFORE RODEO Hits No. 1

Furthermore, this is Travis Scott's fourth consecutive No. 1 solo album placement (albeit not upon its debut), with Birds In The Trap Sing McKnightASTROWORLD, and UTOPIA preceding it in 2016, 2018, and 2023 respectively. If you count the JACKBOYS compilation, then it's his fifth No. 1 project (fun fact: this label team-up was the first No. 1 project on Billboard of the 2020s decade). Given all the massive shows that the "MY EYES" creative is doing across South America right now, we can imagine that he has ample reason and room to celebrate with his fans, loved ones, and team.

Meanwhile, some Travis Scott fans were disappointed this week for very different reasons. His teased feature on Future's MIXTAPE PLUTO did not manifest, leaving a lot of fans scratching their heads as to why the guests didn't show up. Maybe some clearance and label issues got in the way? We don't know, but surely this news gives them at least something to cheer for.
